About this item

Two queens. Two castles. Two knights. One hill. In Duel , Caldecott Honoree Shawn Harris turns a simple conflict into a clever, visually stunning picture book about rivalry, perspective, and learning to share. When two queens decide there simply isn’t room for both of them on the same hill, each sends a knight to battle for control. But after the duel, there’s one big problem: no one can tell which side the winner came from. Suddenly, the differences between the two kingdoms don’t seem quite so important. What makes this book truly unique is its artwork. Every pair of facing pages is created as a perfect mirror image , with symmetry running through the center of the book. Even the colors were made using a squish-painting technique, pressing wet paint between folded pages.
