Portland based jazz guitarist Eric Skye was named by 20th Century Guitar Magazine as “one of the best rising stars of the American acoustic jazz scene,” and this Santa Cruz was dreamed up with him to match his playing. Eric and Richard Hoover set out to build a Cocobolo OO with an Adirondack top, designed for the precise, sophisticated techniques of the most demanding jazz fingerstylist. Cocobolo has a rich, striking presence, and here it’s dressed up with distinctive herringbone purfling and an ivoroid rosette, a handsome, classic combination that looks as refined as it sounds. A unique 24.9" scale length makes it easy to play, and the slightly deeper body adds bass and volume while keeping the guitar comfortable in your lap. Hot hide glue, scalloped bracing, and the Adirondack spruce top give it a lively, responsive voice with real clarity, so every note in a complex chord stays distinct and the guitar answers a light touch as readily as a confident one.
