About this item

Create a sturdy, open-ended foundation for countless outdoor play invitations with the Stand for Troughs by Naturally Inspired Play. Handcrafted in Canada from durable cedar and designed exclusively for Scholar’s Choice, this versatile wooden stand isn’t just for water play; it’s a flexible building base for STEM exploration, loose parts play, dramatic play, and hands-on learning outdoors. With its strong frame and multiple crossbars, children can set up, balance, build, and re-build in ways that support creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration through play-based learning. Because the structure is open on all sides, children can approach it from every angle and use it as a “workstation” for designing systems, creating ramps, organizing materials, or building small worlds. It naturally invites engineering thinking as children test stability, compare heights, experiment with placement, and adjust designs to make their ideas work. Over time, the stand becomes whatever children need it to be: a building station, a play shop counter, a construction frame, a sorting centre, or a base for channelling, ball runs, and sensory setups; indoors or outdoors, depending on your space. Play-based usage ideas (beyond water) Ramp + rolling investigations: prop up boards or gutters to create ball runs, car ramps, or marble pathways and explore speed, slope, and distance. Loose parts building base: use planks, rings, stones, and connectors to build “bridges,” “tunnels,” or obstacle pathways. Sorting + math station: add bins or baskets and invite children to sort pinecones, stones, or counters by size, colour, or quantity. Small world construction frame: create habitats, bridges, or roads for animals and vehicles using natural materials and blocks. Art + tinkering station: clip or rest materials on the bars for weaving, hanging creations, or setting up a “maker” invitation.
